Learn About Our Colleges
The Lam Family College of Business offers a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) with areas of concentration in accounting, decision sciences, finance, information systems, international business, management, and marketing. In addition, the college offers a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management (BSHM) degree, a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, and a Bachelor of Arts in Labor and Employment Studies. Emphasis is placed on business ethics and sustainability throughout the curriculums.
Through the College of Professional & Global Education, we also offer a BSBA (concentration in General Business) Online Degree Completion program. Students with at least 60 college credits can finish their BSBA degree through this 100% online degree completion program.
Established in Fall 1969, the College of Ethnic Studies grew from the 1968 Black Student Union/Third World Liberation Front Student Strike through the a coalition of faculty-scholars, student-activists and community members.
Founded on principles of community-based research and teaching, student leadership, and activism, the college continues in its journey towards liberation via self-determination and collectivism. Our community is transnational, multi-generational and fluid and is inclusive of emerging racial, ethnic, sexuality, gender, class, ability and other identities as expressed through myriad academic disciplines in liberation studies and beyond.
The college consists of five departments: Asian American Studies, Africana Studies, Latina/Latino Studies, American Indian Studies and Race and Resistance Studies.
The College of Health & Social Sciences comprises a wide range of departments, programs and schools with a shared commitment to equity and social justice. Our offerings include 14 undergraduate majors and 10 graduate degree programs.

The College of Liberal & Creative Arts is composed of 21 academic departments and schools in the arts, humanities and social sciences, and nine research centers and institutes. The college offers 33 B.A. and B.S. degrees, 27 M.A. degrees, and has 7,400 majors, minors and graduate students, in addition to supporting much of the University’s general education program.
The college has over 250 tenured and tenure-track faculty, over 300 full- and part-time lecturer faculty, and over 90 staff. College faculty and staff are located primarily in four buildings, including the University’s newest academic building, the George and Judy Marcus Hall for the Liberal & Creative Arts. The college supports a thriving undergraduate research program, a generously funded faculty research program, and provides extensive cultural offerings to the campus and community at large.
The College of Professional & Global Education (CPaGE) — formerly the College of Extended Learning — offers a wide variety of continuing adult education courses and programs to prepare you for career advancement, career change or personal growth. We offer weekend, evening and online courses, online degree completion, international education and access to thousands of transferable degree-credit University classes.
The college taps a combination of San Francisco State faculty and expert practitioners from the community to teach our courses. Because we can offer programs to meet the demands of the marketplace, we create and deliver opportunities for high-quality, reasonably priced and accessible learning experiences to a broad segment of the larger community.

We are a college with deep roots. The oldest college on the campus, the GCOE was founded in 1899 as the San Francisco State Normal School and became San Francisco State Teachers College in 1921. Those deep roots ground us in long-standing relationships with districts, clinics, agencies, and schools where our candidates connect with a diverse population of students and families, and where our alumni have long careers.
