Things to consider

San Francisco State offers 73 degrees. Whatever you choose to study, you will gain real-world experience — whether it’s from a variety of internship opportunities, field work or more than 500 courses that combine learning with volunteering locally. Check out our majors at our Bulletin site.

On-campus housing at San Francisco State University is limited and in high demand. While living on campus is not required, it is also not guaranteed and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. University Housing highly recommends that students submit their housing application as soon as they have accepted their admission offer (AAO) in order to increase their chances of obtaining a space and to avoid being put on the wait list. Students are moved off the waitlist as spaces become available due to cancellations. For more information, visit the housing website or contact us at (415) 338-1067 or housing@sfsu.edu.

Students are encouraged to apply for financial aid early, as many awards are available on a first come - first served basis.  Remember to include your full name and other personal information (for example, your social security number) on your admissions application to ensure we can match your financial aid application to you.

If you already submitted a 2022-2023 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Dream Application, you will need to:

  1. Log into your application
  2. Add the school code (001154) for San Francisco State Unviersity
  3. Submit your application.

After you submit the updates to your FAFSA/Dream Application our school will receive your financial aid application information within 3-5 business days.  An award letter will be emailed to you after we receive your FAFSA/Dream Application within 5-7 business days.

For more information, visit the SF State Financial Aid website.

As a redirect student, another California State University had already determined you were CSU-eligible.  To ensure that we do not add any additional pressure onto your already stressful admissions process, SF State will conditionally admit you to our University upon the redirection of your application. Once your application is redirected to us, you should receive an admission notice within 2 weeks.  Review the  conditions of admissions for freshmen and transfer students which are evaluated upon receipt of your final transcripts.
