Academic Preview

Now’s your chance to get to know SF State’s six academic colleges and their many majors, minors and certificate programs. Each college is led by a dean and has its own specific academic focus, facilities, award-winning faculty, and student clubs and organizations. Stop by and visit your future college to learn more about it and connect with faculty and staff.

Representatives from the colleges will also be available at the SF State Academic Showcase on the Quad from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. for additional questions and assistance.

Each college will host its own set of activities. See below for a sampling of opportunities.

Explore the Lam Family College of Business’s (LFCoB) diverse resources and pathways. Visit LFCoB’s Innovation Hub where blossoming entrepreneurs launch their products. Glimpse inside the Marketing department and visit LFCoB’s Career Services & Professional Development Center. Experience the Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity, and Belonging (DEIB) Lounge, merging culture, community and business. In addition, faculty from Economics and Information Systems, will tell you all about their excellent programs.

Location: Front of the Business Building (facing the Quad)

Time: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Come learn about the Graduate College of Education’s undergraduate teacher preparation pathways for students majoring in Liberal Studies (LS) or Child and Adolescent Development (CAD) to become a teacher. Here you will learn how students can graduate with both a B.A. and a Multiple Subject Credential (MSC) for teachers and learn about our other credential programs.

Location: At the Academic Showcase on the Quad

 

Visit the College of Ethnic Studies — the first college of ethnic studies at a U.S. university — for an Open House, a Meet and Greet and a Legacy Exhibit celebrating the birthplace of the ethnic studies field. Refreshments will be provided.

Location: Front of the Ethnic Studies and Psychology Building

Time: 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Visit the College of Health & Social Science for tours of classrooms and labs within the Departments of Kinesiology and Family, Interiors, Nutrition & Apparel (FINA). FINA will offer tours of its Betcher Apparel Construction Lab, FINA Textile Lab, Interior Design Drafting Lab, Lighting Lab and Miele Lab.

Learn how the College of Liberal & Creative Arts (LCA) can provide you with the opportunity to engage in ideas that feed the spirit, power the world and empower your success and growth. Spanning the arts, humanities and social sciences, LCA is a bustling hub for creativity, collaboration and debate. You’ll get to work and network with LCA’s world-class faculty, who are constantly developing their own groundbreaking art and research in their respective fields. Many future Oscar, Grammy, Emmy and Tony winners — as well as elected officials, community leaders, journalists and scholars — have spent late nights working together on and off campus to fulfill their dreams. You can be the next one!

Time: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Join the College of Science & Engineering (CoSE) for a planetarium show and see the stars in the day! Or take a tour of the CoSE Laser Lab to see how faculty and students manipulate light in modern optics. Or check out sunspots and other features on the sun through solar observation. Whatever you choose, you’re sure to see something brilliant!
