For students planning to study in F-1 student visa status, you and/or your sponsor(s) must prove that you have the financial ability to pay for school costs plus living expenses for one academic year. An I-20 Certificate of Eligibility will be issued once admitted to the University and financial documents have been verified.
Instructions:
- Complete and submit page two of the Financial Affidavit Form.
- Attach photocopies of your financial documents and a certified English translation (if applicable)
- How to submit:
- Undergraduate Applicants:
- Upload the completed form and copies of financial documents to the Program Materials section of Cal State Apply before submitting the application; OR
- Upload the completed form and copies of financial documents using the Admissions Document Upload on the SF State Gateway LaunchPad after applying and receiving a 9-digit student ID number for your SFSU login; OR
- Email the completed form and copies of financial documents as a PDF attachment to: International Undergraduate Admissions at ugintl@sfsu.edu
- Graduate Applicants:
- Email the completed form and copies of financial documents as a PDF attachment to Graduate Division at gradstudies@sfsu.edu

Financial Documentation:
Financial documents that demonstrate proof of funding must:
- Be in English or accompanied by a certified word-for-word English translation
- Be on official bank letterhead, with bank stamp or bank officer’s signature
- Show minimum funding required for the total amount of one academic year and include type of currency
- Have an issue date no earlier than June 1 for Spring term applications; no earlier than October 1 for Fall term applications.
- Include the account holder’s name (if the bank account is not in student’s name, the name on bank letter/document must match name of sponsor in the Sponsor Agreement in Section 4 of the Financial Affidavit Form).
- Not have a maturity date after the SFSU academic program start date.
